The short answer is: they're not really driving. Which is not news to Dermot, a driver for Action Camera Cars of Yonkers, who was at Rockland Lake Wednesday preparing the "insert car" for an upcoming episode of "Blindspot," which airs Monday nights on NBC at 10.
The insert car hooks up to the car the actors are "driving" with a tow rig. The director, script supervisor and technician sit atop a bench while the car tows the actors.
Meanwhile, a crew was readying an 5K HMI Light to light the motion shot, which will take place within the perimeter of the park.
Nearby, Alyson Latz, unit production manager for Blindspot, was in the warm trailer where hair and makeup are applied. When asked if the actors ever do their own driving, she gave a true Brooklynese answer: "fahgetaboutit," Driving and acting, no, she said. "We drive them around. Safety first!"
Action driving scenes, simulated gunfire and robbery are just some footage crews are busy filming around the south end of Rockland Lake.
Motorists in the area should expect occasional road closures, police said. Officers are assisting film crews to help with traffic and overall safety.
